When you begin the journey to a fabulous lawn just remind yourself that it will take time. Enjoy the journey and soon everyone will see the fruits of your labor.

Spring Has Arrived!

What is Pre-emergent?

What is Pre-emergent?

Spring is here and you may see those winter weeds still hanging around. Pre-emergent won't kill existing weeds but its job is to target those weed seeds in the soil that has yet to sprout. Of course timing is key to this and always read the product label. The ideal time in the south will be March when average soil temperature is above 60 degrees. I don't recommend using products that you can find at your local Home Depot or Lowes. I recommend using high quality products such as Prodiamine 65WDG.

Another Pre-emergent that we have used and recommend (if you don't prefer the generic) would be the Barricade product itself. Of course, we had much success using this product to prevent those pesky weeds from sprouting.

April is Here

Fertilizer

Fertilizer

Fertilizer & Water is the key to the entire project. Most homeowners overlook the watering schedule. For the next 3 months Bermuda will need an inch of water a week. Now your question is what fertilizer should I use? You will need a fertilizer that has a 16-4-8 ratio that has micro & macronutrients. I got you covered.

One of my favorite products I've used for years is the Anderson's brand. Many of my clients are amazed by the results they've achieve.

BONUS

If you elect to get a soil test I highly recommend using Clemson University. The test is great and will give you a detailed look into your soil and any nutrients that's low or high within your soil then adjust products as needed.

What Do I Use?

Grassy Weeds

Grassy Weeds

For those hard to kill Poa and sedges this product will get the job done. Especially in the south you will find many lawns covered with these pecky weeds.

Broadleaf Weeds

Broadleaf Weeds

One of my favorites due to the control it has with crabgrass and it's good for both grassy and broadleaf weeds. If you don't know what type of weeds you have in your lawn there are many places online that will help you identify them with just a simple picture.

Change Up herbicide is my go to here in the south. I can do a blanket spray to get rid of most weeds then use the others listed above to do spot treatments. You're on your way to the perfect lawn.

Keys To Summer

Bermuda loves the hot weather! Now it's all about maintaining the work you have done up to this point. Watering is important to prevent sun spots on your lawn. You can introduce organic fertilizer during the summer if you like but not necessary. Winter weeds will start to die off at this point if you haven't applied a treatment. Get ready for the summer weeds if you were late putting down Pre-emergent but you can treat them using the herbicides above. Look over your lawn to make sure there is no disease or insect infestation. If you see anything be sure to treat as soon as possible.

Fall Is That You?

Things will began to slow down as we approach the Fall. One more fertilizer treatment in September will be the last for the year. I'm sure your lawn was the envy of the neighborhood. Now it's time to prep your lawn for the fall. If you did a soil test which showed PH issues you can now start to add lime to do the corrections. Also, it's time to start thinking about Pre-emergent. Doing a split treatment will be best. One in the Fall & one in the winter.

Winter is Here! Am I done?

In a perfect world you definitely would be done. You have worked hard keeping a perfect Bermuda lawn now it's dormant. You now must keep an eye out to make sure nothing green is growing in your lawn. The rule is if it's green in the winter it's a weed and must be sprayed. Once that is complete now you can rest and reward yourself for all the hard work.
